#008 Make an Enhanced Version of ANNCast 04-16-2010 “OveraChivers”

Just finished making another enhanced podcast version of the Anime News Network‘s ANNCast like I did last week.  This week, as some of you may know, I am actually the interviewee at the end of the episode.

Download it below.

This time took a lot longer than last time, partly because the topics I talked about on the show were really hard to find pictures for, lol.  It’s 6 am Wednesday morning in Japan, and interestingly enough, this is right about the time Justin & Zac interviewed me last week. On their side of the world, they are probably getting ready to record next week’s episode in a few hours.

Anyway, I won’t write much because like I said, its 6am and I am fading fast. 😉  I hope you guys enjoy the enhanced version, and let me know if you think its even worth doing. 😉  Sorry it took so long.

Make sure to rt-click the link, save it, and watch it on your ipods, ipads, iphones, quicktime, or itunes for the best viewing.  (If your browser has the latest quicktime plugin installed – Firefox is good with this – you can also stream it. )

Check out last week’s post about enhanced podcasts if things don’t work for ya, and keep your comments and questions coming!

Hi Alex. Sure. I have a gmail anyone can email me at – just put the word “tokyooyabun” before the at symbol. I get lots of spam in that account so put “YKWWSTD” in the subject line so I see it. 😉

Same goes for any other readers who want to reach me! Thanks 🙂

This enhanced podcast reminds me of a point that occurred to me in the discussion of the production committee difficulties of getting simulcast streams approved in time for the broadcast premier …

… while I had listened to the original podcast, so I only skimmed the enhanced podcast a bit, clearly a podcast like this could be streamed as video on any video streaming site. A similar thing could be done with, eg, a DramaCD – a slideshow could be produced with the DramaCD as the audio track.

Once you have an audio track as the track to a video stream – even a slideshow – then it can be subtitled.

For the competition between legit streaming sites and bloodsucker sites, with the legit sites struggling with the competitive disadvantage of jumping through the hurdles to get the streaming rights and then the patchwork quilt of regional distribution restrictions … additional streaming content in the form of additional subtitled content in the form of press conferences, DramaCD’s and etc., gives them content that they will always intrinsically have first, because the slideshow will be put together for the adaptation of the content for the streaming sites.

But also, for the committee system, it means that the participants in the committee that produce the audio content contained in things like DramaCD’s that have never had an overseas commercial market have an opportunity to commercialize it. Even if it is only the content owner’s share of streaming ad revenue … its a new stream of revenue that did not previously exist.
